When you first deploy a project, Famous.ai automatically generates a default URL. While that works for testing, you’ll likely want to use a professional domain you already own (like yourbrand.com) to give your project a polished, final look.

Connecting your custom domain is a straightforward process involving your DNS settings. Here is how to do it.

Step 1: Access Project Settings

You can manage your domains directly from within the individual project you are working on.

  • Open your project: Navigate to the specific project you want to customize.

  • Go to Settings: Click on the project name on the top left next to the famous logo and select Settings (you can also access this via the dashboard by hitting Settings on any individual project).

  • Find Domains: Scroll down till you find the Domains section. You will see the default "deployed" URL that the system automatically assigned to you.

Step 2: Add Your Custom Domain

Now, you need to tell Famous.ai which domain you want to link to this specific project.

  • Click Add Domain: Click the "Add Domain" button.

  • Enter your URL: Type in the domain you have already purchased (e.g., fancraft.com) and click confirm.

  • Get your DNS info: Famous.ai will instantly provide you with the A Record instructions, specifically a Name and a Value (a string of numbers). Keep this window open!

Step 3: Update Your DNS Records (GoDaddy, Wix, etc.)

Now, you need to go to the platform where you bought your domain to point it toward Famous.ai.

  1. Log in to your Domain Provider: Go to your provider’s website (GoDaddy, Wix, Square, etc.) and find the DNS Management or DNS Zone settings.

  2. Add a New Record: Choose the option to add a new record and select A Record as the type.

  3. Enter the Name: In the "Name" or "Host" field, use the @ symbol.

  4. Enter the Value: Paste the string of numbers (the IP address) provided by Famous.ai into the "Points to" or "Value" field.

  5. Save: Hit save to add the record.

Step 4: Verify and Launch

Once you have added the record at your registrar, go back to Famous.ai to finalize the connection.

  • Check the status: Close the DNS instructions. You should see your custom domain listed in the project settings.

  • Syncing: It may take a few moments or a few hours for the systems to sync up.

  • Test it out: Click your new custom link. Anyone who types in your domain will now land directly on your Famous.ai app or project!
